A recent study published in American Journal of Public Health disclose that retail stores offer a wide variety of snack foods, even the stores that do not sell food as the main merchandise. The same stores offer few, if any, healthy alternatives. The snack products are often displayed close to the counter, increasing the chance of last minute purchase, which equals more money for the seller and more calories for the customer. 96% of pharmacies offered energy dense snacks – and diet shakes, sending out mixed messages that we should indulge but at the same time also lose weight.
