Fecal contamination in soda fountains
A study in Virgina found that 48% of the tested soda fountains tested positive for the fecal bacteria coliform, and 11% for E- coli. According to the findings, the soda didn’t even meet the U.S. drinking-water standards. The study was published in the January issue of International Journal of Food Microbiology, and suggests that there might be other reasons to avoid the fizzy drinks at restaurants and cafés, other than the high dense energy content.
