The festive season weight gain

December 27, 2009 By: Iris Daniela Classon Category: World news

Experts are worried about the festive season overindulgence and gluttony. Christmas dinner, treats and snacks can add up to 6000 calories, nearly four times the recommended amount for a four year old, and three times more than the recommended daily energy intake for the average woman.
The Christmas binge eating can last for several days and lead to considerable weight gain and health problems. But for those believing that there is no immediate harm, experts argue otherwise. For borderline diabetics this can be the final drop and the binge eating can be hard on a fragile heart.
Many people, and also children, do not shed those extra pounds gained over the festive season. A 5-6 day binge can result in a weight gain of nearly four kilos that would take 60 minutes of exercise five days a week for well over nine weeks.
