The debate continues as Lindex, a large clothing store in Sweden took in a collection only in the sizes small and medium. People of all sizes have angrily lashed out at the popular clothing store, at what they consider discrimination. This makes me think of the law that Japan passed about a year ago. I don’t know if you remember, but it is illegal to be fat in Japan. A waistline over 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women can land you or the company you work for, a heavy fine. The country that has made it illegal to smoke on the streets, has made it illegal to be fat. Shouldn’t the fines be on the fast food chains and not the people I wondered?

I remember how the streets where filled up with fast food chains when I visited a couple of years ago the popular street Ginza in Tokyo. I tried hard to find some real Japanese food, and it took me two hours and asking about ten people before finding a restaurant that served traditional food. It was hidden in a small alley, whilst McDonalds took up a considerate bit of the main streets. I have to say I also felt discriminated against, when I desperately needed to buy a pair of shoes and a dress, and there was nothing close to my size. An xxl shoe barely fit my foot, and the normal sizes would probably not even fit an 11 year old back at home.
